L. Mark Cornick

L. Mark Cornick, 90, of Mount Pleasant died at 3:25 Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Parkview Care Center.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St Alphonsus Catholic Church In Mount Pleasant. Interment will be in St. Alphjonsus Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday at Weir funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, and the Knights of Columbus will conduct a Rosary at 3 p.m. the family will receive friends following the Rosary until 5 p.m. A memorial has been established to Knights of Columbus in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. Cornick was born April 10, 1909, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Leo M. and Anna Elizabeth Gavin Cornick. He married Elsie V. Shumaker Sept. 14, 1935, in Mount Pleasant.

He was a lifelong resident of Henry County. He was a 1927 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport. He was a delivery tank wagon driver for Continental Oil Co. He farmed the home farm in Caanan Township northeast of Mount Pleasant after his father's death. He moved into Mount Pleasant in 1950 and sold seed corn for Farmer's Hybrid Seed Corn Co. until 1962. He received his real estate license and was one of four founders of Iris Realty. He retired from the real estate business in 1976.

He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic church and Knights of Columbus in Mount Pleasant. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of Parkview Care Center; one son, L. Michael Cornick of Valley Spring, Ark.; three daughters, Anna Shima of Audubon, Nancy Bell of Fairfield and Sally Bell of Rosenburg, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Catherine Buckley, Cecilia Scully and Leola Edgerton.
