Mrs. Gladys Shumaker

Mrs. Gladys Shumaker, 75, Salem, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 1979, at 3:14 a.m. at the Henry County Health Center.

She was born Sept. 9, 1903, at Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of James B. and Myrtle Whitham Hallowell. On Dec. 31, 1923, she married Iliff Shumaker, Mt. Pleasant.

Surviving are her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Joyce) Van Dorin, Salem. Gwendolyn Foss, Burlington, Mrs. Blaine (Darlene) Owens, Bothell, Wash., Mrs. Lawrence (Charlotte) Bailey, New Providence; one son, Ronald, Salem; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne D, Hallowell of Mt. Pleasant and Dwight R. Hallowell of Davenport.

Her parents and one sister, Mrs. Josephine Pigeon, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Salem Friends Church. The Rev. George Bigley, pastor of the church, will officiate with interment in the Salem East Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Assoc. Friends may call as they desire after noon Friday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Salem.
