Iliff Shumaker

Iliff Shumaker, 82, Salem, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1981, at 6:25 p.m. at the Henry County Health Center.

Born April 7, 1899, in Henry County, he was the son of Francis and Ella May Wery Shumaker. On Dec. 31, 1923, at Mt. Pleasant he married Gladys Hallowell who died Feb. 8, 1979.

Mr. Shumaker was a lifetime resident of the Salem community.

Surviving are one son, Ronald, Salem; four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Joyce) Van Dorin, Salem; Mrs. Gwendolyn Foss, Burlington; Mrs. Blaine (Darlene) Owens, Bothell, Wash.; and Mrs. Lawrence (Charlotte) Bailey, New Providence; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Lorene) Dietrick, Mt. Pleasant; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Salem Friends Church. The Rev. Fred Jones will officiate with interment in the Salem East Cemetery.

Friends may call as they desire after 6 p.m. Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant. The body will be taken to the church at noon Friday to lie in state until the service.

A memorial has been established for the Salem East Cemetery.
