A.J. Riley Dies at Farm Home Tuesday

BRIGHTON----Andrew Jackson "Jack" Riley, 85, died at 10 o'clock Tuesday night at his farm home near Coppock, He had been in failing health for two weeks,

The Omar Hoskins funeral home in Brighton was called. A Washington county road maintainer was summoned to clear the road to the farm as it was blocked by snow,funeral arrangements were still indefinite today.

Mr. Riley was born at Gramercy, Iowa, Aug. 18, 1846. He spent his early life there.

He married Anna Griffin of near Coppock, Oct. 5, 1892. They lived for a year at Gravity, Iowa, moving later to a farm northeast of Brighton. They have lived on their present place for 39 years.

His wife preceded him in death in 1935. Surviving are his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Riley, with whom he made his home, a sister Mrs. Laura Wilson of Shenandoah and two foster grandchildren. One son, three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Funeral Friday For A. J. Riley, Coppock

BRIGHTON -- Funeral services for A. J. (Jack) Riley, will be held Friday afternoon at the Cottonwood church north of Coppock.

Mr. Riley died Tuesday at his home north of Coppock. Short services will be held at the home at 1 o'clock, followed by services in the Cottonwood church at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. Lloyd Patton will be in charge with burial in the Wayland cemetery.

The body will be taken from the Omar Hoskins funeral home Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Riley was born at Gravity, Iowa, in Aug. 18, 1865. He was married Oct. 5, 1893, to Anna Griffin who died in 1935.
