Clarence Shumaker

Clarence E. (Doc) Shumaker, Wayland, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 1977 at 7:35 a.m. at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

He was born near Wayland on Feb. 9, 1904, the son of William and Almeda Scarff Shumaker. On Aug. 28, 1926, he was married to Hazel Warth at Mt. Pleasant.

He was in the produce business for 35 years at Wayland. He was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Richard, Wayland, and Edward (Wayne), East Dubuque, Ill.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha Shumaker of Wayland.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held from the Wayland United Methodist Church on Monday, Dec. 26, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Schultz officiating.

Music was provided by Mrs. Darrell Schults, organist, and Ron Roth, soloist.

Honorary casket bearers were Wade Huffman, W. E. (Bud) Schantz, Allen Shumaker, Donald Rich and William G. Brooks.

Casket bearers were Glenn Shumaker, Jack Shumaker, Wayne Rich, Leonard Ridinger, Ralph Gholson, Andrew Tschantz, W. J. Eicher and Kenneth Rich.

Interment was in the Wayland Cemetery with arrangements by Beatty-Jennings Funeral Home.

A memorial fund in memory of Mr. Shumaker has been established to the Wayland Methodist Church.
