Dorothy Holcomb

Dorothy Uldine Holcomb, 77, of Mount Union died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.

Born June 21, 1933, at her grandparent's home in Rome, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles Monroe and Erma Frances Sammons Cocherell. On July 14, 1962, she married Junior Holcomb.

Mrs. Holcomb was a switchboard operator and supervisor with the former Mount Pleasant Telephone Co. and cooked 12 years at Mount Union School until retiring. She attended school in Keosauqua and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1951.

She was a member of Trenton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She collected birdhouses and enjoyed reading.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter Sally Huddleston of Mount Pleasant; one grandchild; two great- grandchildren; one brother, Harold Cocherell of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Marilyn Alter of Mount Pleasant; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter and her parents.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Holcomb will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trenton United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Jeffrey McPheron and Kent Leydens officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, rural Mount Union.

A memorial has been established for Trenton United Methodist Church.
