Irma Fye

Irma Fye, 94, of Mount Pleasant died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.

Born May 25, 1916, in Henrietta, Minn., she was the daughter of Harvey E. and Pearl Jane Gholson Morrow. On Aug. 23, 1934, she married William Theodore Fye in Monmouth, Ill. He died Jan. 4, 1997.

Mrs. Fye was a homemaker, farmed with her husband in Mount Union and retired and moved to Mount Pleasant in 1960. She worked as a telephone operator at New London Telephone Co. and in 1960 began work at Mount Pleasant Telephone office.

She graduated from New London High School. She was member of First United Methodist Church, active with UMW, and played piano for Trinity Methodist Church.

She was a member of Mount Union Order of Eastern Star, Chapter "U" TTT, and Nautilus Club. She served as a local club and county 4-H leader. She was involved in Founders' Chapter "A" TTT, Entre Nous, West Side Mothers Club, Sans Souci, Fortnightly Club and Tuesday Study Club, all in Mount Pleasant. She enjoyed music and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Hatton of Cedar Rapids and Joan Waganer of Pawnee, Ill.; one sister, Doris Byers of Newton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren, her parents, one sister and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Fye will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery near Mount Union.

Memorials have been established for The Willows, Trinity Cemetery and First United Methodist Church.
