Mrs. Etta Ekstrom Funeral Held
----------

Funeral service for Mrs. Etta Ekstrom was held at the First Baptist church Saturday afternoon at 2:30. The Rev. M. C. Carstensen, pastor of the church, officiated. Mrs. Verle Sammons played the piano and Mr. G. E. McLean sang.

Pall bearers were Loren Dusenberry, Jim Sodini, Walter Spry, Carl Carlson, Phil Kermeen and Webb Yocum. Interment was in the cemetery at Swedesburg.

Many friends were saddened when it became known that Mrs. Etta Ekstrom had passed away early Thursday morning. Her illness covered a period of years, and at times she showed favorable symptoms of recovery, but her weakened heart could no longer battle against sickness.

In the death of Mrs. Ekstrom the family has lost an affectionate mother, and the community a kind friend and splendid neighbor. She lived her life entirely for others. Her life was in the future.

Etta Caulk Ekstrom was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Caulk who preceded her in death. For many years she cared lovingly for her aged parents.

Mrs. Ekstrom was permitted only a few years of happiness with her devoted companion, Ed Ekstrom, who died Oct. 12, 1918 at Camp Lee, Va. She carried on bravely, rearing the two young sons left fatherless.

Etta took great pleasure in her church and was a faithful member of the First Baptist church of this city. She enjoyed her affiliation with the Crystal Rebekah lodge. Mrs. Ekstrom's charter membership in the American Legion Auxiliary was distinguished by the fact that she was the first and only Gold Star Wife of the local unit. Her willingness to serve and devotion to the American Legion Auxiliary will long be remembered by the members.

Surviving are the two sons, Joe of Fremont, Nebr., and Edward of Mt. Pleasant; one bother, Walter Caulk of Ft. Madison and four sisters, Mrs. Nina Dewein and Mrs. Nellie Woodsmall of Burlington, Mrs. Loah Parker of Monte Vista, Colorado, and Miss Mary Caulk of, Waukesha, Wisc.
