Malcolm "Mike" Farr

Malcolm "Mike" Farr, 76, of Salem, died Friday, March 31, 1995, at 2:45 a.m. at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born April 1, 1918, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Frank and Nellie Graff Farr. On Aug. 5, 1939, in Davenport, he married Lucille Ross, who survives.

He was a 1936 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School.

He was formerly employed by the city of Mt. Pleasant. He was employed as a pipefitter at Hastings, Neb. and was employed by the former Benesh Plumbing Company of Mt. Pleasant until 1948 when he started the Salem Plumbing and Heating Company, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the former Salem Methodist Church and attended the Open Bible Church in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the Salem American Legion.

He served in WW II in the U.S. Naval Air Corps, and also served on the Salem School Board and Salem Town Council.

He is also survived by one daughter, Connie Weatherman of Salem; one son, James Farr of Burlington; five grandchildren; and two brothers, George Farr of Salem and Ray Farr of Mesa, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one bother, Roger.

Open visitation will begin from noon to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at the Salem Congregational Church, with Rev. Dave Legge officiating. Interment will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in his name to the Salem Congregational Church or the Salem Fire Department.
