Millard Schlatter

WAYLAND --- Funeral services for Millard (Duke) Schlatter, 64, who died unexpectedly at his home Thursday morning, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Wayland Mennonite Church with the Rev. Nick Kassebaum and the Rev. Red Bickhart officiating. Burial will be in the North Hill Cemetery at Wayland. The Wayland American Legion Post will conduct graveside rites. The Masonic Lodge will hold a memorial service this evening at 7:30 o'clock at the Beatty-Jennings Funeral Chapel in Wayland after which the family will receive friends.

Mr. Schlatter was born March 10, 1909, in Wayland, a son of Edward and Bertha Hixson Schlatter. He was married Nov. 10, 1934, to Leola Christner in Mt. Pleasant. He owned and operated a garage and filling station at Wayland for many years. He served in World War II, was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church and the Masonic Lodge No. 120, the OES, the Domestic Shrine of Davenport and the White Shrine of Washington. He served as Wayland fire chief from 1947-1969.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Dianne) Bowser of West Chester; a son Dick of Wayland; a brother Othel Schlatter of Omaha, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley, and his parents.
