July 4, 1940 -- March 22, 2007

Mary Lou Swailes. 66, of Wayland, died Thursday, March 22, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, at the Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Gary Vannyhuis officiating. Burial will be in the North Hill Cemetery north of Wayland. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will be present from 2-4 p.m. A memorial has been established in her memory. She was born July 4, 1940, at Keosauqua, the daughter of Harrison and Hazel Fisher Jones. She was raised by Ralph and Beulah Osborne. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1959. She married Harold Swailes March 19, 1960. She worked at Vega in Mt. Pleasant and was a cook at the Cozy Cafe for a number of years. She also enjoyed playing bingo, crossword puzzles and phase 10.

Survivors include two sons, Artie Swailes and his wife, Cami, of Wayland, and Bruce Swailes and his wife, Sherry, of West Chester; on daughter, Tressa Swailes, of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; six brothers, Ralph Osborne, of Brighton, Robert Osborne, of Bettendorf, Ron Jones, of Mt. Pleasant, Edgar Jones, of California, and Harison Jones and Edie Jones, both of Washington; one sister, Sara Grisham, of Burlington; and a special friend, Bobby Savage, of Wayland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, one sister, Cheryl Osborne, and one brother, David.
