Leola L. Crandall, 79, dies

WAYLAND --- Leola Lucille Schlatter Crandall, 79, died Nov. 16,1994, at Washington County Hospital, following a short illness. Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wayland Mennonite Church with the Rev. Steve Good officiating. Burial will be in North Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will begin with a Wayland Chapter #494 Order of Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Beatty Funeral Home, Wayland, and will be followed by family visitation. Open visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday. A memorial has been set up for Wayland Fire and Rescue.

She was born Sept. 8, 1915, south of Trenton, in Henry County, to Benjamin and Della (Messer) Christner. She attended Star #8 rural schools and lived in the area for 60 years. She married Millard 'Duke' H. Schlatter in Mount Pleasant on Nov. 10, 1934. She then married Daniel Crandall in October 1981 in Wayland.

She was a homemaker, worked at the Pearl Button factory and McCleery-Cumming in Washington, and at the New London glove factory and Widmer's Meat Plant and Parkview Home in Wayland. She owned and operated Schlatter's Garage, was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church, the Dorcas Society and Delta Alpha Sunday School class. She was a past worth grand Matron of Wayland OES and was serving as marshal at the time of her death. She also was a member and past-president of Bain-Hulme American Legion Auxiliary in Wayland.

Survivors include: two children, Dick Schlatter, Wayland and Dianne Ray Bowser, West Chester; two sisters, Welcome Bush, Ainsworth, and Freda Aldrich, Wayland; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a daughter, five brothers, one sister and one grandson.
