Gail Lee Davis

Funeral services for PFC Gail Lee Davis, 23, a former resident of the Hillsboro and Birmingham communities, who was killed in action in Viet Nam on Nov. 15, 1965, were held at Hillsboro Baptist Church, Sunday, Nov. 28, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. David Diercks of the Hillsboro Baptist Church officiated.

Music was provided by Mrs. Vinton Hoaglin, organist, and Mrs. Forest Fuhrer, soloist.

Interment was in the Hillsboro Cemetery with full military honors given. The Honor Guard was made up of nine men from Fort Riley, Kansas and the Hoaglin American Legion Post of Hillsboro and the Simkin-Pidgeon Post of Salem participated with Chaplin (Lt. Col. USAR) Theodore A. Mansen, Burlington, conducting the military rites.

Casket bearers, members of the Hillsboro Legion Post, were Craig Smart, John Fleming, Delbert Loving, Robert Moothart, Arnold Niece, Verl Shelman, Glen Swartout and M. M. Doan Jr.

The Escort was C.W.O. Bill McCoy, the Presidio, of San Francisco, California.

Gail entered the service in April, 1964, and had been in Viet Nam since Sept. 18. He was serving with the 7th Cavalry, 1st Battalion, and had basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. and then went to Ft. Ord, Calif. and Ft. Benning, Ga.

He was born July 18, 1942, at Iowa City, the son of H. Orville and Dorothy Boley Davis, and was an only child. The Davis family moved to Nottinghill, Mo. about 20 years ago where they now reside. Gail graduated from Gainesville, Mo. High School in 1960.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Boley of Birmingham, and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
