Claude A. Thorton

Claude Albert Thornton, 75, of route 2, Mount Pleasant, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at his home.

Born June 18, 1911, near Hillsboro, he was the son of John W. and Margaret E. Shamblin Thornton. He married Wilma Messer Feb. 12, 1972, in Mount Pleasant.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Hillsboro American Legion Post and was a retired worker at the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant..

Surviving are his wife; one son, Albert Thornton, Hillsboro; three daughters, Mrs. Christine (Tim) Jayne and Claudia Thornton, both of Mount Pleasant, and Rhonda Fetterman, Salem; one stepson, Richard Droz, Mount Pleasant; three sisters, Nora Thornton and Roberta Boitscha, both of Hillsboro, and Mrs. Clara (Bill) Hughes, Winfield; two grandsons; one stepgranddaughter; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Friends may call as they desire at the Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant.

Services for Mr. Thornton will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Beatty-Wilkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Richard officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery.
