Chester J. Mills

Chester J. Mills, 93, Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1993, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Henry County Health Center.

He was born Dec. 3, 1899, at Mt. Pleasant, the son of Jesse and Sarah Peterson Mills. On Nov. 29, 1924, at Fairfield, he married Leora Mae Riley, who died Aug. 10, 1980.

He was a retired farmer and attended church at Cedar Creek Friend Church. He was a member of the Iowa Farmers Union and served on the county committee for ASC.

He is survived by three sons, Jerry of Mt. Pleasant, Eugene of Middletown, and Rilla Dean of Columbia, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Gilbert, of Washington; and three sisters, Bertha Hart of Mt. Pleasant, Ellen Fenn of Washington, and Sylvia Reeves of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Marvin Leo; and three brothers, Roy, Clayton and Bill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Beatty Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, where open visitation begins at 10 a,am, Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at the Salem Congregational Church. Daryl Coffin and Rev. Lewis Savage will officiate. Interment will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Cedar Creek Cemetery.
