Leland E. Robertson

Leland E. Robertson, 81, route 4, South Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Aug, 15, 1985, at Mt. Pleasant.

He was born Feb. 2, 1904, six miles north of New London in Henry County, the son of Charles M. and Irene J. Holland Robertson. On March 25, 1929, at Ames, he married Maureen E. Hutchinson. She died May 16, 1951. On June 7, 1966 at Keokuk, he married Dorothy L. Gholson Mathews who survives.

Mr. Robertson was a graduate of New London High School in 1923 and received a bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1930. He taught and coached at Grandview in 1930 and 1934 and was superintendent at Grandview in 1932. He also taught and coached at Elvira.

Mr. Robertson had farmed near Lowell and Oakville until retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the New London Masonic Lodge No, 28 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Flying Farmers having received his pilot's license in 19 46. He was a former member of Kiwanis.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Lee C., Oakville and one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Lyn Brader, Mediapolis; one stepdaughter, Janet Schurhammer, Wabasha, Minn.; two grandsons; one step grandson; and one sister, Miss Cleo Robertson of Boone.

His parents and one sister, Lucille Robertson, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Weir Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant. The Rev, George White and the Rev, Ronald Kramer will officiate with interment in Burge Cemetery at New London.

Friends may call beginning at noon Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The casket will remain closed according to the wishes of the family. A memorial has been established.
