DEATH OF R.R. GRANT.
WELL KNOWN MT. PLEASANT PIONEER PASSES AWAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS.
Deceased Was Prominent in Church And City Affairs And Has Been A Resident Of Henry County Since 1848. Funeral Will Be Held Sunday Afternoon From Residence.

Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock occurred the death of Mr. R.R. Grant, one of Mt. Pleasant's oldest and best known citizens. Mr. Grant has been in poor health for sometime, having suffered a stroke of paralysis nearly a year ago, and from which he had never fully recovered. Early Monday morning he was again taken critically ill and his death has been expected almost hourly from that time.

The deceased was born near Flemingsburg, Kentucky, and was seventy-eight years of age the 18th of September. His boyhood days were spent at his Kentucky home, and at the age of twenty-one, in the fall of 1848 he came to Iowa and Mt. Pleasant, where he helped to make and build up the town, and which has been his home ever since. In the fall of 1852 he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza A. Tolle, who died over nine years ago, and to this union were born several children. Mr. Grant is survived by three daughters, Lena Grant, who lived with her father, Mrs. Ransom Pierce of Aurora, Ill. and Mrs. Chas. Leedham of this city; also one brother Mr. O. A. Grant, and one sister Miss Maggie Grant, both of whom live in Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. Grant was a staunch member of the Christian church and at the time of his death held the offices of elder, and president of the Board of Trustees. He was always interested in the welfare of the church and community and gave his hearty support to any movement, which tended to their improvement and growth. At home he was a loving and indulgent father and husband, and his loss will be keenly felt by a large circle of relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon from the residence at three o'clock, conducted by Mr. E.L. Coons of Burlington, formerly pastor of the Christian church. Friends are invited to attend.
