DEATH SUNDAY OF AN AGED RESIDENT

Mrs. Jennie Bedsworth Passes Away From Pneumonia.
Was Past Eighty Years of Age and Had Lived in Mt. Pleasant Since a Girl - In Whiting Family For Many Years.

Mrs. Jennie C. Bedsworth, one of Mt. Pleasant's most aged residents, died Sunday morning at her home on West Washington street, following an illness of a few days only of pneumonia. She took sick last Wednesday, and grew rapidly worse until the end came early Sunday morning.

Mrs. Bedsworth has been one of Mt. Pleasant's most unique characters, and best known women. From the time she was ten years old until her marriage in 1873, she made her home in the Whiting family. The date of her birth and her exact age are not known, but so far as close friends can tell, she was born in about the year 1823, which would make her nearly ninety years of age.

Lived Here Many Years.
"Aunt Jennie", as she was familiarly known, was born in the little Indian town of Painted Post, in the state of New York, her maiden name being Jennie Charles. Her father was a Frenchman and her mother as an Indian. Her parents died when she was three years of age, and when ten years old she came to live with the late Timothy Whiting. She made her home here then for many years, helping to care for the children and in the household duties, until she became greatly endeared to the members of the family and was comfortably provided for by Dr. Timothy Whiting at the time of his death. She was married in 1873 to Bartemus Bedsworth, who was then a farmer living in Lucas county. He passed away in 1891, and since that time she has lived alone. She had no children and so far as known leaves no relatives.

Funeral Held Today.
Mrs. Bedsworth, up to the time of her last illness, was in fairly good health for a woman of her years, and was able to get around the house, look after herself and do her own work. She was a member of the Baptist church since 1857, and was active in church work in so far as her strength would permit. She was a true, faithful, good woman, and will be greatly missed by many friends in the city.

The funeral was held this afternoon from the Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. F.E. Weston. There was quite a large attendance of friends. Interment was made in the Old cemetery.
