JAMES H. HOBBS CIVIL WAR VET DIED THURSDAY
Henry County Pioneer died at Mt. Pleasant - Was 79 Years Old - Secretary Masonic Lodge.

James H. Hobbs, Henry County pioneer, died at Mt. Pleasant Thursday, November 30. The funeral services were held Sunday at the Methodist Protestant church, the Rev. Behrens officiating. Interment at Burge Cemetery.

Enlisted in 1861.
Mr. Hobbs enlisted during the Civil War, July 1, 1861 in Co. D, 6th regiment of Iowa Infantry for a term of three years. January 1, 1864 he re-enlisted serving a little more than four years all together.

Mason and Church Member.
He joined the Methodist Protestant church in New London a number of years ago and was a member at the time of his death.

Mr. Hobbs was made a Mason, May 3, 1885 in The New London Lodge number 28 A.F. and A.M. He served as secretary of the lodge for twenty-two years, during this time becoming widely known throughout this section of the state.

Surviving James H. Hobbs are: Mrs. Chas. Gabbert of New London; Mrs. Margaret Stucker, Burlington; Frank Hobbs, Mt. Pleasant; and Albert S. Hobbs, Payette, Idaho. Twelve grand-children and three great-grand-children.
