FUNERAL OF DR. MARSH.
Many Present at Services Over Remains of Former Mt. Pleasant Man.

The many friends in this city of the late Dr. C.F. Marsh, who formerly practiced medicine in Mt. Pleasant and is well known here, will be interested in reading the following account of his funeral which is taken from the Pensacola [Fla.] Journal, under date of September 24:

"The remains of Dr. C.F. Marsh were laid to rest in the National cemetery yesterday afternoon with military honors, and in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives who had come to pay their last sad tribute of respect to one whose life had been a useful one.

"Christ church, where the funeral services were conducted, was filled with those who had known Dr. Marsh during his residence here. The beautiful and impressive services were conducted by Rev. Percival H. Whaley, who paid to the deceased a beautiful, though deserved tribute.

"From the church the funeral cortege which included members of the Grand Army of the Republic, proceeded to the terminal station, where a special car conveyed the casket and a large number of persons to the National cemetery, where the remains were placed at rest, the grave being covered with beautiful floral tributes.

"The army band and a number of companies of artillery were present at the cemetery, and a volley was fired over the grave.

A Short Sketch.
"Dr. Marsh was born Jan. 6, 1842, and upon the outbreak of the civil war enlisted as hospital steward in the Twenty-Fifth Iowa volunteers. After a service of nine months, he received a commission as regimental surgeon. When Sherman was detached from Grant's army at Vicksburg, Dr. Marsh was appointed to his personal staff and accompanied Sherman on his famous march to the sea. At Rome and Atlanta he organized a general hospital, of which he was in charge. He was mustered out of service at the close of the war at Washington, D.C. It is worthy of note that Dr. Marsh organized and had charge of Gen. Sheridan's general hospital, although he was at the time only 22 years of age.

"The deceased was a member of the medical class of 1869 of the University of Michigan, and upon leaving college moved to Iowa, where he practiced his profession until 1885, when he came to Florida. At the time of his death he had charge of the National Odd Fellows sanitarium at Gainesville, Fla.

"He is survived by a wife, Mrs. Louise M., two sons, Fred W., of Pensacola, and Frank M., of Pontiac, Mich., and one daughter, Mrs. Frank M. Dunn, of this city."
