John C. Ramseyer Died 1920

J. C. Ramseyer, owner and manager of the J.C. Ramseyer dry good store in Emporia, Kansas, was born in Wooster Ohio July 27, 1862 and departed this life at his home in Emporia, Thursday evening, January 8, 1920 at 5:30, aged 58 years, 6 months, and 11 days. At the early age of 15 years, Mr. Ramseyer began to support himself. When he was 21 years old he started into business for himself. He opened racket stores in various towns in Kansas, buying small stocks, selling out, and gradually accumulating a capital for investment. He was in business in Newton, Kansas from 1897 until 1903. While in Newton he was married to Miss Myrta McKee April 6, 1892.

It was in 1903 the Ramseyers left Newton and went to Springfield, Massachusetts where they resided two years and were in Washington D.C. several months before coming to Emporia where they have lived the past 14 years.

Mr. Ramseyer is survived by Mrs. Ramseyer, two daughters, Katherine, who is in special government work at Washington, D.C., and Margaret who is in school at the University of Kansas at Lawrence; one sister, Mrs. E. S. Faro of New York, 3 brothers, D.F. and S. F. Ramseyer of New York and H.J. Ramseyer of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Before leaving Emporia for Wayland, a short funeral service was held Saturday morning at 9:30 from the Dunuh Chapel conducted by Dr. W. C. Warton of the First Methodist Episcopal Church and Carl Nau, Rector pf St/ Andrew Episcopal Church. Final service was held d Sunday morning at 10:00 at the Eicher Church, conducted by the Rev. W. H. Slack. Interment was made in the Eicher Cemetery, by the side of his father and mother.
