Funeral services for J. A. Glass, 88, a resident of Winfield for nearly three-quarters of a century, were held Wednesday afternoon at Barton-McKasson funeral home. Mr. Glass died at his home shortly after noon Monday after a long period of declining health.

The Rev. C.E. Chandler was the officiating clergyman. Interment was in the Winfield-Scott Township cemetery. Bearers were Paul Paisley, Ed Feldman, Fred Weirather, Floyd Beauchamp, M.C. Barton and Clone Swarts.

John Alvin Glass was born at New Concord, Ohio Feb. 13, 1869, the son of John and Mary Forsythe Glass. He was the last of a family of eight children. He came to Winfield when he was 14 and had lived here since that time.

He was married to Anna Janette Young on Oct. 9, 1895 and they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this fall.

Mr. and Mrs. Glass were the parents of three children, a son, who died in infancey, and two daughters, Mrs. Helen Schllig of Colorado Springs, and Mrs. Lucille Rodruck of Winfield. Besides his wife and two daughters, he is survived by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

For many years, Mr. Glass owned and operated the Winfield Tile Factory, retiring five years ago. He was also a brick mason, and helped build nearly all the business buldings in Winfield, as well as three of the churches, and homes and other buildings in many Iowa towns.

He had served on the town council for a number of years. He joined the United Presbyterian church at an early age, then later joined the Presbyterian church. He served both denominations as an ordained elder for more than 40 years.
