Mary Hall Hulme, daughter of Samuel and Sarah Jane (Howard) Hulme was born near Trenton, Iowa on August 13, 1869 and died in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa on March 29, 1952. She was the only remaining member of a family consisting of one brother and four sisters. Her childhood was happily spent as one of a large family on a productive, well-kept Iowa farm.

After her preliminary education at a country school and in Trenton, Iowa, she attended college at Iowa Wesleyan in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, for two years commencing in the fall of 1887.

On September 18, 1895, she was married to John Calvin McCoil, who predeceased her, and to this union were born two sons, Paul H. McCoid and Eugene C. McCoid both of whom survive and reside in Mt. Pleasant. She is also survived by three grandsons, Allan, John, and David, and by one granddaughter, Jean. One grandson, Robert Eugene predeceased her.

While in attendance at college, she joined the Pi Beta Phi fraternity; and was one of its interested active alumni. She was a charter member of several organizations including Wednesday Club and Tuesday Study Club and down through the years she was a member of various clubs, including Needle World Guild, Ramblers, Sans Scuci, Bridge Club and the Mt. Pleasant Woman's Club. During World War I, she devoted much of her time to Red Cross and Navy League work.

Her chief interests were her home, her family, her friends and her church. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and had been active in its suppers, bazaars, food, and rummage sales and its general activities. She loved her flowers, the beauties of nature, and derived keen pleasure from her gardening activities.

Possessed of a quiet sense of humor, high principles and standards, and an abiding faith and a friendly spirit, she was a loved and respected citizen of her community and her family and her friends will sorely miss the warmth and influence of her happy life.
