Dillon Bates, 78, died at Burlington Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon after an illness of several months. He was the son of Isaac and Anna Miller Bates. He was born March 20, 1891 in Henry County, Iowa. Mr. Bates farmed until 1943 and has resided in Mt. Pleasant the past 25 years at 507 West Madison. While living in Mt. Pleasant he was engaged as a painter and decorator.
On October 25, 1925 he was married to Helen Donahue who predeceased him in November, 1940. On May 25, 1944, he was married to Ruth Wolff who survives him. He is also survived by one brother, Max Bates, Rt. 2, Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Laura Lyons, West Union, Iowa, and Mrs. J.L. (Elsie) Sater, Phoenix, Arizona; also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday at the Crane-Ewart-Young Funeral Home, Rev. Alton Koch, pastor of the Faith Lutheran church will officiate. Internment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Those friends who wish may contribute to the American Cancer Society.
