Dorman McFarland, 80, Passed Away Recently
Funeral services were held on Thursday morning of last week at Holechek Funeral Home for Dorman McFarland, 80. Burial was in Bridgeport's Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery. Mr. McFarland died Monday of last week at Veteran Memorial Hospital here. He was born July 14, 1886 in Lowell, Iowa, and received his early education there. He graduated from Elliotts Business College at Burlington, Iowa in 1905. Following his graduation, he moved to Washington where he was employed in the county treasurer's office at Pasco. On February 22, 1916, he married Bertha E. Wilson at Danville, Iowa. In October of that year the couple moved to Bridgeport. With the exception of two and one-half years, between 1928 and 1931, when Mr. McFarland's work took him to Neligh and Fremont and 14 months he spent in the Aleutian Islands during World War II, Bridgeport was his home. Earlier employment was in the oil industry; he was later engaged in the carpentry and building trades. For three years, prior to his illness, he served as mail carrier. Survivors include his widow; one son, Robert, of Chicago, Illinois; one daughter, Mrs. Janet Reagor, of Augusta, Kansas; and nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
