AVA BATES

Ava Clarissa Bates, 79, Parkview Home, Wayland, died Wednesday, March 8, 1989, at the home.

She was born Jan. 30, 1910, in Exline, Iowa, the daughter of the Rev. Aaron T. and Nellie Behrens James. She married Gilbert W. Bates Jan. 20, 1931. He died March 2, 1963.

She worked as a beautician in Winfield 10 years and over 20 years in Columbus Junction. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors and was of Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are one daughter, Rose Custer, Crawfordsville; one son, Gilbert Bates, Livermore, Calif.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Lee, Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 10 from Honts Funeral Home, Winfield, with the Rev. James Edwards officiating. Interment will be in Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.

Friends may call as desired after 9 a.m., Thursday at Honts Funeral Home, where a memorial has been established to the Parkview Home.
