Dennis Dean "Abe" Snyder, 70, of New London died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Born March 8, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of Harold T. and Wilda M. Hester Snyder. He married Iva Boecker in Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. Snyder worked for the Iowa-Illinois Telephone Co., then for Contel in Hedrick as an installer and repairman. He transferred to Mount Pleasant as a warehouse supervisor, retiring in 1993, after 35 years of service. He also had served on the New London City Council.

He was a 1956 graduate of New London High School. After his retirement, he became involved with photography, taking school athletic photos and making numerous picture buttons. He enjoyed visiting with people, tinkering in his garage, fishing with his sons in Canada and spending time with his wife.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Wendy Snyder of Mount Pleasant; one son, Eric Snyder of Riverside; four grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald A. Snyder of Mount Pleasant and Robert J. Snyder of Muscatine; one sister, Sandra J. Pollock of New London; one half sister, Cindy Billings of Georgia; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and two brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Snyder will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with the Rev. Adam Ross officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. A lunch will follow at New London Christian Church.

A memorial has been established for the New London Rescue Unit.
