Ellen Raines

Ellen Raines, 91, of New London, died at 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 1993, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born May 8, 1901, in New London, Baltimore Township, she was the daughter of William Sherman and RoseAnna Fetterman Collins. She married Homer B. Raines Dec. 24, 1923, in Mt. Pleasant. He died Jan. 1, 1961.

She was a cook at New London School and was a member of New London United Methodist Church, the Lowell Get-together Club, and the Senior Citizens. She had played in the Senior Citizens kitchen band.

Survivors include a son, Mervin L. Raines of New London; two brothers, Bate Collins of Delta, and James S. Collins of Burlington; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three half-sisters and a half-brother.

Friends may call Tuesday afternoon or evening at Elliot Chapel in New London.

The funeral for Mrs. Raines will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliot Chapel in New London with the Rev. Donald Wooge officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, New London.

Memorials have been established for New London Care Center and New London United Methodist Church.
