Dora May Gerald, 82, of New London, formerly of Davenport, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 1, 1926, in Cuba, Mo., she was the daughter of Christopher Columbus and Geraldine Bell Grant. In 1947, she married Paul Ross. He died in 1980. On March 31, 1984, she married Earl Gerald in Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. Gerald was a beautician. She and her second husband built and operated The Haven restaurant in New London for several years. They sold the restaurant in 1993. She attended Bible Missionary Church in Mount Pleasant. She enjoyed reading the Bible and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; two brothers, Robert Grant of Hobart, Ind., and Donald Grant of Bennett; nieces; and nephews.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

The funeral for Mrs. Gerald will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel with the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
