Lauren James Sloan, 65, of West Burlington died at 7:35 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born June 10, 1942 in Washington, Iowa he was the son of James and Marie Swan Sloan Crane. On July 5, 1996 he married Lynn Duncan in Burlington.

Mr. Sloan was a Vietnam and Desert Storm Army National Guard veteran retiring at the rank of Sr. Warrant Officer. He was a supervisor at Iowa Southern Utilities (Alliant) for 37 years, retiring in 1999.

He enjoyed fishing, vacationing in Sanibel Island, Florida, spending time with his family and friends and his faithful dog Bear.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Lynn Sloan of West Burlington; two sons, Jeff (Kellie) Sloan of Mount Pleasant and Jamie (Polly) Sloan of Fairfield; two daughters, Lauri Sloan of Mount Pleasant and Brianne Duncan of West Burlington; five grandchildren, Brandii Weaver, Alexis Lunsford and Taylor Sloan all of Mount Pleasant and Gunner Sloan and Furi Sloan both of Fairfield; two great grandchildren, Landon King and Mattisyn Wenke both of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, Wray (Yvonne) Sloan of Mount Pleasant and Frank (Pace) Sloan of Washington D.C.; two sisters, Joyce (Robert) Smith of Clarence and Judith Cline of Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother Johnny.
