Bernice Bailey
Bernice May Bailey, 94, of Burlington, died at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Great River Medical Center-Klein Center in Burlington.Born June 20, 1913, in Muscatine, she was the daughter of Laurence and Fern Willard Kuechmann. On July 11, 1930, she married Harold Lester Bailey in Wapello. He died Nov. 13, 1986.
Mrs. Bailey was fabric buyer for Schramms for 15 years. She was manager of House of Fabrics. She was a member of Ruth Chapter Kings Daughters, League of Women Voters and Burlington Professional Women. She was affiliated with St. Luke's United Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing and doing English smocking.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Pershing of West Burlington and Marilyn Brau of Mount Pleasant; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Burlington.
The funeral for Mrs. Bailey will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Vicki Engelmann officiating. Burial will be in Edward's Cemetery in Oakville.
A memorial has been established for St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
