Joyce Wellington

Joyce E. Wellington, 61, of Mount Pleasant, died at 6 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, at her home.

Born May 27, 1940, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Alvin Wesley and Laura Jane Steward Thorington. She married Darrell Albert Wellington on July 5, 1974, in Fairfield. He died Nov. 16, 1997.

Mrs. Wellington attended school in Muskegon, Mich., and completed her education at Mount Pleasant High School. She worked at Litton Industries in Van Nuys, Calif., for 10 years, was self-employed for 10 years and then worked for Nypro Industries in Mount Pleasant for four years. At the time of her death, she worked at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include one brother, Robert W. Thorington of Danville; one sister, Mattie DeWitt of Keokuk; one stepbrother, William L. Carpenter of Mount Pleasant; and a half brother, James A. Carpenter of Kalona, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Stace Allen Carpenter, and a half sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The funeral for Mrs. Wellington will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forest Home Cemetery Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Henry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
