Margaret Lu McKinnon, 89, of New London, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 17, 1918, in New London, she was the daughter of Phillip and Mary Francis Parriott Westerbeck. On Oct. 30, 1943, she married Hugh William "Bill" McKinnon in New York City. He died Jan. 7, 1983.

Mrs. McKinnon occasionally worked at New London State Bank. Before marriage, she worked at IAAP and the Hiway Commission in Jefferson. She was a 1935 graduate of New London High School.

She was a member of New London United Methodist Church, Deerwood Golf Club, four local bridge clubs, Mothers Club and Birthday Club. She enjoyed bridge, golf and was a big Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include one daughter, Gina Anderson of New London; one son, Jeff McKinnon of New London; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandsons; one sister, Betty Byrum of Mount Pleasant; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. McKinnon will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel with the Revs. Dot Hasler and Leonard Schantz officiating. Burial will be at Burge Cemetery, New London.

Memorials have been established for Dover Museum and New London High School.
