JESSIE KIGER

Mrs. Glenn [Jessie] Kiger, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 1995, at the Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant.

Born May 4, 1906, at Mt. Pleasant, she was the daughter of John A. and Harriett Whitaker Lauger. On Sept. 1, 1935, at Mt. Pleasant, she married W. Glenn Kiger, who preceded her in death in 1968.

She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1925, and received a B. A. degree in education in 1929 from Iowa Wesleyan College. She attended the University of Iowa in the teacher education program. From 1949 until retiring in 1979, she was a librarian at the Mt. Pleasant Public Library.

A life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant, she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Presbyterian Women.

She was a 50 year member of the Bethlehem Chapter No. 38 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Phi Mu Sorority, State Historical Society, Iowa Library Association, Magna Carta Dames, Huguenots, Colonial Dames of the 17trh Century, National Society of the Daughters of the Colonists, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Iowa and Henry County Genealogical Societies, Mentor Club, Sans Souci, Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club and the Mt. Pleasant Womens Club.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Richard Donnolly of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Gladys Estes of Visalia, Calif.; two nieces, Mrs. Robert [Joann] Donald and Mrs. Thomas [Judy] Stahl, both of Visalia, Calif.; one nephew, John Estes of Long Beach, Calif.; and great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant brother.

Open calling hours will be held from noon until 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, at the Weir Funeral Home. The family will not receive friends at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Interment will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church.
