James H. Honts, age 58, Winfield, died Wednesday evening, October 14, 1987, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. The son of Harold and Sarah (Keegan) Honts, he was born July 6, 1929 at Winfield. On September 18, 1955, he married Delores Slusher at Winfield. He attended the Winfield schools, served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. He farmed east of Winfield and had owned Honts Gocery in Winfield for over 20 years, selling in 1984
He is survived by his wife, Winfield; one son, Michael Honts, Winfield; one daughter, Michelle Rees, Crawfordsville; four grandsons and one sister, Doris M. Conrad, Winfield. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 17, 1987, 10:30 A.M. from the Winfield First Prebyterian Church, Rev.James Edwards officiated. Honorary bearers, Glen Rodgers, Henry Widmer, Leslie Ross, John Carty, Everett Holtcamp, Leslie Stutzman, Maynard Hill and Irvin Beauchamp. Casket bearers Bill Finke, Roger Sommer, DeWayne Mullen, Erik Binkele, Roger Hill and lon Haight. Interment was in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery, with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Funeral services were under the direction of McKasson-Honts Funeral Home, where a memorial has been established for the W. MU. School playgroung equipment fund.
