Marciele Bence

Marciele Adeline Wagler Bence, 83, of Burlington, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at her home.

Born Nov. 17, 1915, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Mark and Matilda Hendrickson Walker. On Aug. 17, 1932, she married Arthur E. Wagler in Oquawka, Ill. He died Aug. 31, 1974. She then married Clyde A. Bence on March 4, 1978, in Kingston. He died March 30, 1983.

Mrs. Bence was a nurse's aide at Burlington Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church in Kingston, United Methodist Women, RSVP, Hawkeye Natives, Railroad Auxiliary and Burlington Medical Center Auxiliary. She loved her family, many friends, gardening, needlework and, especially, the annual Wagler campout.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Wagler of rural Fairfield, Mark Wagler of rural Fort Madison and Tony Wagler of Sperry; four daughters, Gladys Oberman of Burlington, Betty Carol Wallman of Yarmouth, Linda Throckmorton of Keosauqua and Kathie Loyd of New London; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gal Wagler and Oran Wagler, both of Burlington, and one sister, Edith Fulton of Russellville, Ark.; several nieces and nephews.

Besides both husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, one grandson and one sister.

Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Sunday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Bence will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Melvin Miller officiating. Burial will be in North Walker Cemetery, rural Burlington.

A memorial has been established to Kingston United Methodist Church.
