James Ford

James W. Ford, 78, of rural Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at his home.

Born Nov. 8, 1921, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Earl and Bessie Jay Ford. He married Madeline Arnold on March 7, 1942, in Memphis, Mo.

Mr. Ford was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He farmed in the Mount Pleasant area and retired from the Henry County Maintenance Department in 1983. He worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant in Middletown for 27 years as an X-ray technician.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Darla Litton of Durant; two sisters, Virginia Moffett Buxton of Mount Pleasant and Verna Moffett of Carthage, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and one brother.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Ford will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Beatty Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeffrey Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association.
