Gladys Obermann

Gladys Marie Obermann, 85, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Danville, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born July 1, 1916, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Willis and Ruth Kissinger Vandemark. She married Paul Obermann on Dec. 12, 1936, in Pleasant Grove. He died March 31, 1968. She married Cecil Obermann on Aug. 26, 1972, in Creston. He died Nov. 11, 1974.

Mrs. Obermann grew up in the Shinar Cumberland area and was a graduate of Sperry High School. She was a homemaker and owned Obermann's Grocery and Obermann's Variety Store in Danville for many years.

She was a member of Danville Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, King's Daughters for more than 50 years, and Dingalings Pinnochle Club. She enjoyed walking, spending time with her grandchildren and playing cards. She always played rummy every night before she went to bed.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet Heinold of Mount Pleasant; three grandsons, Levi Heinold of Ridgeway, Colo., Bret of Augusta and Clinton of Wever; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one niece, Sherry Fry Moyer of California.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Agnes Moehn.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Obermann will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel, with Pastor Richard Latta officiating. Burial will be in Shinar Cumberland Cemetery, Pleasant Grove.

Memorials have been established for her church and Shinar Cumberland Church.
