Marjorie Barnes

Marjorie Frances Barnes, 67, of New London, formerly of Middletown and Danville, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born Sept. 2, 1931, in Springfield, Neb., she was the daughter of Frank Mathew and Veda Maxine Lenz Cox. On Sept. 17, 1949, she married Fallie H. "Pie" Barnes in Burlington.

Mrs. Barnes worked for Sylvania, Schramm's, Selby's Produce and Excide in Burlington, the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Wal-Mart and Metromail in Mount Pleasant. She attended Granger High School in Granger, Mo.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Burlington. She was a weekly volunteer for Community Action in Mount Pleasant, member of New London Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Altar and Rosary Society and a past member of Eastern Star. She loved to travel, go to flea markets, helping others and being with her family.

Survivors include her husband; 53 foster children through the years, two sisters, Maxine King of Rogers, Ark., and Donna Hornberg of Keosauqua; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son and one brother.

Visitation will begin after noon Monday in Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Barnes will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Burlington, with the Rev. Pat Lumsden officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the ICU nursing staff at Burlington Medical Center.
