Floyd Reif

Floyd Daniel Reif, 90, of Wapello, died Monday morning, Dec. 29, 2003, at Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center.

Born Nov. 28, 1913, near Sperry, he was the son of Wesley and Lillie Kopp Reif. On June 8, 1939, he married Grace L. Obermann in Middletown.

Mr. Reif farmed near Mount Union for 12 years before moving to rural Wapello in 1954. He enjoyed farming and continued being involved with the family farm throughout his lifetime.

He was raised on the family farm near Danville and was a 1931 graduate of Danville High School. He attended Burlington Junior College for two years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello, where he served on several committees through the years and sang in the choir. He was a 50-year Mason, initially joining at Mount Union and transferring to Wapello Masonic Lodge No. 5 AF & AM, where he advanced to 33rd degree. He served as junior warden and junior deacon with the Iowa Lodge. He was a member of the Davenport Consistory and Burlington York Rites Bodies. He was involved with the Louisa County Farm Bureau, Louisa County Cattlemen's Association, the Iowa Corn and Soybean Association and several other committees. He was a 4H leader and helped with Boy Scouts.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Colleen Carlson of Chicago and Joyce Veach of Burlington; one son, Jack Reif of Wapello; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Luella Schaap of Georgetown, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

The funeral for Mr. Reif will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Wapello, with the Revs. Harlan W. Winter and Chris Thomas officiating. Following a lunch at the church, burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.

A memorial has been established for the United Methodist Church in Wapello.
