Jack Hodson

Jack W. Hodson, 76, of Westwood, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Born Oct. 6, 1922, in Pleasant Plain, he was the son of Charles W. and Esther Elmore Hodson. He married Beverly Litton Strout on April 2, 1946, in Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. Hodson was a 1941 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and an Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in Spinzola, Italy, in the 460th Bomb Group as a radio operator and sergeant. He worked in partnership with Robert McKim in the Hodson-McKim Motor Co. of Mount Pleasant from 1957 to 1983.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the 460th Bomb Group Association of the 15th Air Force, Iowa Auto Dealers, National Auto Dealers, and Mount Pleasant American Legion, and a former member of Westwood City Council and Mount Pleasant Golf and Country Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James W. Hodson of Rockdale, Texas, and Michael A. Hodson of Waukeska, Wis.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson, a daughter-in-law and a special aunt, Peakie Elmore, who raised him.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Hodson will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with Ed Peterson and the Rev. Kiboko I. Kiboko officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

Memorials have been established for the First United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Public Library, or the donor's choice.
