Opal Meeker
Opal M. Meeker, 91, of Winfield, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.
Born Jan. 31, 1911, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Edgar and Maggie Shelman Conard. On Dec. 6, 1930, she married Lester R. Meeker in Springfield, Mo. He died June 10, 1986.
Mrs. Meeker drove a truck for her husband for several years and then attended Burlington Business College. She worked for Riley Brothers of Burlington, then for John Carty Law Office for 16 years until her retirement.
She was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She was a member of Winfield Methodist Church, Faith Circle, TTT Chapter P and Bridge Card Club.
Survivors include one son, Eugene Meeker of Davenport; two daughters, Gwyn McCreight of Winfield and Marilyn Owens of Blue Grass; 13 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters.
Visitation will begin after noon Wednesday at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Meeker will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Winfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jo Hary officiating. Burial will be in Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Winfield United Methodist Church and Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
