Dorothy Haist
Dorothy M. Haist, 76, of Iowa City, formerly of New London, died at 1215 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Born Jan. 21, 1922, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of Paul E. and Gladys E. Morrison Waters. She married Bobby Elsworth Siberts. He died in August 1949. She then married Dr. Perry J. Haist on June 17, 1953, in Mount Pleasant. He died April 15, 1989.
Mrs. Haist was a graduate of Mount Union High School, Mount Union, and Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant. She was a teacher in Donnellson, Gladbrook and Bonaparte, a homemaker, a bookkeeper and a receptionist.
She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Mount Pleasant, PEO, Alpha Xi Delta sorority, St. Michael's Guild, Recordo Club, past president of H.J. Nugen Library Board and University of Iowa Dental Wives and Mercy Hospital Guild, both of Iowa City.
Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Siberts Shively of Spencer and Jane Haist Zimmerman of West Yarmouth, Mass.; two sons, Bobby E. Siberts of Iowa City and Scott J. Haist of Clearwater, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; her father of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Dale Waters of Mount Pleasant; and two sisters, Mary Belle Walker of Scotsdale, Ariz., and Betty Lou Inglebright of Mount Pleasant.
Besides both husbands, she was preceded in death by her mother.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and where a private family gathering will be from 4 to 6 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Haist will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Wayne Kamm officiating. Burial will be in Winfield Scott Township Cemetery in Winfield.
A memorial has been established.
