Maurine Viebrock

Maurine S. Hope Viebrock, 86, of New London, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Sept. 5, 1913, in Brier Hill, N.Y., she was the daughter of Charles and Louise Schermerhorn. On June 29, 1940, she married William H. Viebrock in Jamaica, N.Y. She lived in Queens, N.Y., from 1940 to 1963, and in Ridgefield, Conn., from 1963 to 1979. She retired to Mount Pleasant in 1979, moving to New London in 1994.

Mrs. Viebrock was a registered nurse, retiring as director of inpatient personnel at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Conn. Prior to that, she held the same position at Queens General Hospital in Jamaica. She took her training at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg, N.Y., and Columbia University Teaching Hospital in New York.

She was a member of various church, professional and social organizations. She enjoyed spending time in the area where she grew up near the St. Lawrence River.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Charles W. Viebrock of Novato, Calif.; one daughter, Karen A. Osborne of New London; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

The body of Mrs. Viebrock has been cremated. No service is planned at this time.

Memorials have been established for New London Fire and Rescue and H.J. Nugen Library in New London.
