Vercie Brown

Vercie Colombia Giberson Brown, 91, of New London, formerly of the Stockport and Glasgow areas, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at New London Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born July 8, 1912, in Colombia County, Ark., she was the daughter of George Washington and Lillie Belle Harter. On Jan. 2, 1929, she married Claude Giberson in Fairfield. He died Oct. 3, 1975. On July 11, 1982, she married Joe Brown in New London. He died Feb. 22, 1989.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker.

She attended Grant School north of Stockport. She was a longtime member of New London Christian Church and member of New London Senior Citizens.

Survivors include five sons, Ernest Giberson of Stockport, Ralph Giberson of Citrus Heights, Calif., Louie Giberson of Homestead, Fla., Frank Giberson of St. John, Ind., and James Giberson of New London; five daughters, Ila Coleman and Darlene Norton, both of New London, Lillie Mitchell of Bethany, Mo., Ruth Boyd of Ottumwa and Irene West of Burlington; 35 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Vera Parker of New London Nursing and Rehab.

Besides both husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, three grandchildren, two great-grandsons and one son-in-law.

Visitation will begin at noon Monday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The graveside service for Mrs. Brown will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hickory Grove Cemetery northeast of Stockport.

A memorial has been established for New London Nursing and Rehab Center's activity fund.
