Lois Stebbins

Lois I. Stebbins, 77, of Mount Pleasant died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at her home.

Born Nov. 9, 1928, in Oelwein, she was the daughter of Arnold T. and Ida L. Bahe Zummak. On April 22, 1951, she married James H. Stebbins in Oelwein. They later divorced.

She was a graduate of Oelwein High School and attended Wartburg College and art school in Chicago. She lived in Maquoketa, Rock Island, New London and settled in Mount Pleasant in 1964. She worked at Iowa Wesleyan College in the admission's office and Standard of Beaverdale lumber yard as a bookkeeper. She attended Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and grew the iris of the year a few years ago. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed architectural drawing. She designed her house.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Hoover and Susan Haines, both of Mount Pleasant, and Carol Hildreth of Hastings, Minn.; one son, Jim Stebbins of Mount Pleasant; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Wilma Anderson of Postville, Arlene Thiele of Oelwein and Mardene Zummak of Palm Desert, Calif.; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will begin at noon Monday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mount Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stebbins will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Mount Pleasant Women's Club for the beautification of the Henry County Courthouse lawn and the Mount Pleasant Iris Show.
