Roscoe Calloway
Roscoe E. Calloway, 91, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.
Born March 15, 1912, in New London, he was the son of Orlan L. and Gladys Anderson Calloway. On April 21, 1935, he married Ethel Virginia "Ginny" Lindsay in Mount Pleasant.
Mr. Calloway worked for Fleenor Chevrolet and later operated the OK Restaurant from 1954 to 1958. He worked at the Mount Pleasant Post Office for 20 years, retiring in 1974.
He graduated from New London High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the Pacific. He served several years on the Mount Pleasant Board of Adjustment. He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and NARFE. He also was one of the original six members that set up the Goal Line Club now known as the Mount Pleasant Booster Club.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ann Calloway Smith of Burlington; one son, Bill Calloway of Cedar Rapids; one daughter-in-law; nine grandchildren; and two brothers, Rex Calloway and Ron Calloway, both of Franklin, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
A memorial service for Mr. Calloway will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial with full military rites by the Henry County Honor Guard will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
A memorial has been established for Park Place.
