David Calloway
David R. Calloway, 98, of the Long Term Care Unit of Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant, formerly of New London, died at 1: 45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 1994, at the Henry County Health Center.
Born March 26, 1896, north of New London, he was the son of James Benjamin and Finetta Brown Calloway. On May 8, 1920, he married Helen Schulze in Burlington. She died Oct. 21, 1968.
Mr. Calloway attended Howe's Academy in Mount Pleasant. He was a lifelong farmer.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Lions Club, Elks Club, Chamber of Commerce, Cattlefeeders Association, Pork Producers and Henry County Planning and Zoning Commission. He was Director of the Iowa State Bank, Federal Land Bank and New London Farmers Coop.
Survivors include one son, James Calloway of Lubbock, Texas, two daughters, Marjorie Sheetz of O'Fallon, Mo., and Mary Catherine Calloway of Mount Pleasant; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one brother and one sister.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Elliot Chapel, New London. There will be no family visitation.
Graveside services for Mr. Calloway will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Burge Cemetery at New London with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating.
A memorial has been established for the Ronald McDonald House.
