Freda Smith

Freda Elaine Smith, 63, of Yarmouth, died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Oct. 13, 1933, in Bloomfield, she was the daughter of Robert and Edith Blankenship Morris. On Dec. 16, 1949, she married Virgil Homer Smith in Lancaster, Mo. He died Nov. 2, 1985.

Mrs. Smith had attended Agassi School of Ottumwa. She was a homemaker, and had worked at IRC, Sylvania and General Electric Co. of Burlington.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Coontz of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Scott Smith of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Steve Smith of Yarmouth; six grandchildren; her mother, Edith Brown of Ottumwa; and two sisters, Norma Stevens of Bloomfield and Carol Oetken of Davenport.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, stepfather and stepmother.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London. There will be no family visitation.

The graveside funeral for Mrs. Smith will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Cemetery of Mount Union, with the Rev. Walter B. Martin officiating.

A memorial has been established.
