Curtis Darbyshire

Curtis Wilbur "Curt" Darbyshire, 82, of Morning Sun, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born Oct. 25, 1914, in Yarmouth, he was the son of Estes and Maude Fye Darbyshire. On Aug. 15, 1937, he married Irma Lee Gabeline in Kahoka, Mo. She died June 21, 1994.

Mr. Darbyshire was a lifelong farmer in the Yarmouth community.

He was a member of Des Moines County Farm Bureau, the ASC Committee, served on the FHA Board for four years, was a 4-H leader for 10 years; was a church trustee for 20 years; was active in the Soil Conservation District; was a board member of Trinity Cemetery; was a member of Des Moines County Cattlemen's Association and the Des Moines County Corn Growers Association; and was an active volunteer for over 40 years at Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant. He was a member of the former Yarmouth United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Church at Mount Union.

Survivors include one son, Larry Darbyshire of Yarmouth; one daughter, Dixie Lee Hauswirth of Mediapolis; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Cleo Darbyshire of New London and Kenneth Darbyshire of Warsaw, Mo.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one granddaughter and one brother.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 630 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Darbyshire will be at 1030 a.m. Tuesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Hary officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.

Memorials have been established for Trinity Cemetery and Yarmouth Fire Department.
